SharePoint Training

SharePoint Online is the intranet solution used by the university.  Unlike Sitefinity, SharePoint sites, pages, and content require a user to sign in with their university credentials to view.  Sites can be further security trimmed to specific organizations, groups, or people within the university.  Below you will find some general training materials to help get you started on using SharePoint Online.
SharePoint Online training videos are available via Skillsoft. Be sure to sign into the UCD Access portal before opening the training links below.

Adding a file to your library

Working with document libraries is one of the most common things you will do in SharePoint Online.  Document libraries function similarly to one drive or other file systems, where you can upload files and documents.  You can manage the structure of a document library using folders.  The video below will walk through the steps to add files to a document library on SharePoint.

Sharing items

There are several ways to share files and content from SharePoint Online to other people.  This can be the sharing of a link to someone that already has permissions to the site you are sharing from, or you can share specific content to a user that does not already have access to the site.  The video below provides information on how to share content with others.

Creating a custom list

Lists are a powerful tool within SharePoint Online to arrange and collect data.  While libraries are used to store documents, the main purpose of a list is to store and collect information in the form of "metadata".  This could be an intake form, training log, task list, user directory, and much much more!  The video below will walk you through how to create a custom list and add additional fields to the list.

Inserting an image

When building pages on SharePoint Online, it is often necessary to add images to make a page more visually appealing or direct users to specific graphs and content.  The video below outlines how to add an image to a page on SharePoint Online.  Please be sure to also review the @web pages on accessible images and using images as they are both applicable to SharePoint Online.
