The CU Dental Admissions team understands it’s an unprecedented time during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We certainly know it can be stressful as you’re thinking of applying to dental school. Below we have included some of the top topics and resources to make the DDS admissions process smoother.
Shadowing hours - Our minimum requirement is 50 hours; you will still be able to submit your application and update accordingly when you have completed your shadowing hours. As you know, the application period will open up May 15, and you will be able to submit your application starting June 4, 2020. Our application will be open until October 15, 2020; we may extend our deadline if needed.
Pass/Fail Online Classes - We will accept online science courses for the Spring and Summer sessions, but you still need to take the labs that are associated with the required class. We usually do not accept online labs, but we will until further notice. We will also accept pass/fail grades as long as they are NOT required or prerequisite courses. For required or prerequisite courses, we want you to receive a letter grade. There will be additional questions on the application this year that will ask how have you been impacted by COVID-19, to help us assess your application better.
DATs – We will accept applications from individuals who were unable to take the DAT due to COVID-related test cancellations. Assuming that DAT testing resumes before October, we will require applicants to have taken the DAT before we make any admissions decisions for the Class of 2025. Accordingly, applicants should not delay applying because a DAT score is not yet available.
