Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to let you know that CU Denver will be granting two additional days of paid time off this fiscal year—Monday, Jan. 16 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and Friday, March 24 (the Friday of Spring Break)—so
you can take time for yourselves and the communities and activities you care about without having to use vacation time.
This decision comes at the recommendation of a cross-functional committee, convened by the Office for DEI, with representation
composed of Faculty Assembly, Staff Council, the Student Government Association, as well as the registrar, human resources, and budget office. I charged the group to study our current holiday and observances calendar and make short- and longer-term
recommendations to help ensure that the cadence and composition of time off we are providing is intentional and considered through an equity lens.
To arrive at their recommendations, the committee conducted a survey and weighed those results with other factors such as:
The committee’s work will continue as they prepare a holistic recommendation for FY24-25. I am grateful to them for their thoughtful approach and am pleased to provide this extra time for our faculty and staff.
Designated essential personnel as well as classified employees and university staff who are part of units that support both CU Denver and CU Anschutz should check with their supervisors to determine their eligibility. HR business partners will communicate instructions on how to record this time off on employee timesheets.
Hope you have a good rest of the semester.
