Chancellors' Message: Announcing Search for a New Chief Information Officer

Dear faculty and staff,

As we look ahead at the future of our campuses, we must think strategically and creatively and look for opportunities that will enable us to grow, innovate, support our research infrastructure and maximize the teaching and learning experience even more. We know that the role of information technology and data management is becoming increasingly critical to our operations and the ambitious goals we are setting. Just to point out two important examples, CU Denver is building robust systems around all aspects of student success, and CU Anschutz is making major investments in bioinformatics and data analytics that will require significant system support. 

Shared services provided by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) have proven to be both effective and efficient. For that reason, we intend to retain a combined OIT structure as the core information management structure, but we also recognize that the needs of the two campuses are, in many aspects, unique. Acknowledging that reality, we have decided to bolster the leadership with two CIOs, one for each campus, acting in partnership to jointly direct the Office. The goal is to ensure that each campus receives the strategic leadership focused on their specific issues. Each will also have a Deputy CIO partnering on strategy, with a more direct focus on operations.

Separate searches for each position will begin shortly. David Lowry and Laura Morris, both of whom have done outstanding work in their interim Co-CIO roles, will continue in those capacities until candidates are selected. We thank them for their ongoing leadership and look forward to seeing how this structure enhances the great work already underway on our campuses and further strengthens our consolidated entity.
