Chancellor's Communiqué

A Message from Chancellor Horrell, 3-3-2017

Dear students, faculty and staff,

I am deeply sorry to inform you of a tragic loss. Sadly, a CU Denver student who lived in Campus Village passed away earlier this week. We offer our deepest condolences to the student’s family, friends and loved ones, and would like to reassure you that there is no threat to the community.

Losing a fellow student and member of our university is difficult. Perhaps it’s helpful to remind ourselves of why we do what we do here at CU Denver.  At our core, our reason for being is to make more possible—for our students, our community, and for the larger society.  It begins with a belief that each of us has value, not just to our families, or our university, but to our world.  We are here together, and how we take care of ourselves and each other is part of who we are and what we do.

I encourage you to use the campus resources, listed below, for any support and assistance you may need. Also, during this time of great loss, we are reminded of the importance of community. Let’s try to be a little kinder and a little more understanding, realizing that everyone has difficulties and challenges that may not be immediately apparent. Take care of yourselves and each other. Ask for help when you’re hurting and notice when someone else may need a helping hand. Remember that we need and value each one of you.
