 \n\n\n\nProgram Overview\nIn this presentation\, Dr. Lemery will dive into
  the stress that our ecosystems are now under and how it is affecting the 
 widescale human suffering. He will examine the record heat exposures\, flo
 oding episodes\, wildfires\, hurricanes\, and forced displacement that are
  increasingly exacerbating health disparities\, predominantly in our most 
 vulnerable populations. Finally\, Dr. Lemery will highlight the need for r
 esilient healthcare systems and credible\, knowledgeable and effective hea
 lth leaders to understand the health risks and help advance smart health p
 olicy. \n\n\n\n\n\nJay Lemery\, MD\nJay Lemery\, MD\, is the Climate &amp\
 ; Health Foundation Endowed Chair in Climate Medicine\, and Professor of E
 mergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He ser
 ves as the Chief of the Section of Wilderness and Environmental Medicine\,
  and faculty in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at
  the Colorado School of Public Health. Dr. Lemery was a past-president of 
 the Wilderness Medical Society. \nDr. Lemery has expertise in austere and 
 remote medical care\, as well as the effects of climate change on human he
 alth. At the University of Colorado\, Dr. Lemery co-founded the Climate &a
 mp\; Health Program\, based at the School of Medicine. In partnership with
  the Climate &amp\; Health Foundation and CU faculty\, he inaugurated the 
 nation&rsquo\;s first graduate medical education climate &amp\; health sci
 ence policy fellowship for physicians in 2017\, in partnership with numero
 us federal agencies and nonprofits. In fall 2022\, the program launched th
 e &lsquo\;Diploma in Climate Medicine&rsquo\; for healthcare providers\, t
 he first of its kind at a School of Medicine\, offering a distinction for 
 expertise and leadership in this novel field. \nIn 2017\, Dr Lemery co-aut
 hored &lsquo\;Enviromedics: The Impact of Climate Change on Human Health.&
 rsquo\; Prior to that\, co-edited &lsquo\;Global Climate Change and Human 
 Health: From Science to Practice&rsquo\;\, now in its second edition. Dr. 
 Lemery was a technical contributor to the 13 U.S. Federal Agency\, &lsquo\
 ;Fourth National Climate Assessment&rsquo\; (2018)\, and co-author on the 
 landmark New England Journal of Medicine study on Excess Mortality in Puer
 to Rico after Hurricane Maria. From 2011-2016\, he was a consultant for th
 e Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Preven
 tion.\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Lemery is currently the Medical Director for the Nati
 onal Science Foundation&rsquo\;s Polar Research program and Associate Elem
 ent Scientist of the Exploration Medical Capability Element of NASA&rsquo\
 ;s Human Research Program. From 2014-2016\, he was the EMS Medical Directo
 r for the United States Antarctic Program. He is a Fellow at the Payne Ins
 titute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines and the Harvard T
 .H. Chan School of Public Health (FXB Center)\, where he is a contributing
  editor for its Journal\, &lsquo\;Health and Human Rights\,&rsquo\; and wa
