 tive (BRI)\, an initiative for transcontinental infrastructure constructio
 n conceptualized in China and under implementation in over 70 countries. T
 he BRI primarily promotes the building of physical infrastructure that wil
 l connect the partner country globally.&nbsp\;\nDespite its needs-based ap
 proach\, the BRI has been widely criticized for creating undesirable effec
 ts\, such as increasing partner countries&rsquo\; economic dependence on C
 hina through debt-trap lending. In the talk\, we will identify and explain
  what is different about the BRI\, the evidence that is available on the i
 mpacts of the BRI and the implications for policymakers.\nDr. Rafiq Dossan
 i\nDr. Rafiq Dossani is director of the RAND Center for Asia Pacific Polic
 y\, a senior economist at the RAND Corporation\, and a professor at the Pa
 rdee RAND Graduate School. He works on education\, finance\, regional deve
 lopment\, security\, trade\, and technology issues. Recent projects includ
 e academic medical center design in China\, the Belt and Road Initiative\,
  blended delivery models in higher education\, security in the Korean Peni
 nsula\, smart city development in China\, studies of Taiwan's security and
  prosperity\, trade relations in Asia\, and the use of artificial intellig
