Undergraduate Experiences

Committees

Undergraduate Experiences oversees a number of committees in order to serve as a bridge between UC Denver academic and student support units to promote learning and increase retention of undergraduate students. Most of the committees within Undergraduate Experiences are advisory, but the Core Curriculum Oversight Committee and the Undergraduate Council are part of the faculty governance structure to ensure academic integrity of the undergraduate curriculum.

Quality Undergraduate Education (QUE)

QUE: Quality Undergraduate Education

The QUE project was launched during the fall 2003 semester by the formation of the QUE Steering Committee. As a steering committee to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Experiences, QUE promotes interdisciplinary undergraduate signature programs such as campus-wide honors, leadership, and experiential learning. QUE members include faculty, staff, and administrators across academic and student services units dedicated to undergraduate education at UCD. QUE also supports recruitment and persistent programs, such as first-year seminars, learning communities, supplemental instruction, early alert, etc.

The overall goals of the QUE steering committee include:

  • Attracting and retaining more “traditional” freshman students
  • Increasing the retention rates among all undergraduate students
  • Becoming a “first-choice” institution for undergraduate students
  • Improving the identity of the downtown campus of UCD
  • Enhancing the reputation among prospective employers of our students
  • Creating strong undergraduate programs and a strong student population

The Foundations of Excellence (FoE) program is a comprehensive, year-long self-study program of assessment that focuses on undergraduate students, especially the first-year student.

Core Curriculum Oversight Committee (CCOC)

CCOC: Core Curriculum Oversight Committee

The campus core curriculum is governed by an elected body of faculty from each of the undergraduate schools and colleges, chaired by Dr. Ann Martin. (CCOC) is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and coordinating the UCD Core Curriculum.

UGC: Undergraduate Council

UGC: Undergraduate Council

The Undergraduate Council (UGC) is an academic body established to support all academic aspects of the undergraduate experience on the UCD Downtown Denver Campus. The Council, which includes faculty representatives from all schools and colleges with undergraduate programs, was established to review new undergraduate degrees and programs with cross-college content; as well as to foster communication, coordination and cooperation of undergraduate programs and curricula across campus. The UGC shall also serve in an advisory capacity to schools and colleges, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Experiences, and the Provost on matters of access, recruitment, retention, and quality education.
