From Aristotle and Plato to Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis H. Sullivan, students and their mentors have been collaborating to produce works of scholarly merit.
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), established at the University of Colorado Denver in 1994, enhances undergraduate education by funding students engaged in research, scholarly, creative, and entrepreneurial activities in collaboration with faculty at the Downtown Campus of the University of Colorado Denver. Projects are either designed around the activities of a faculty member or designed independently by a student or team of students and endorsed by a faculty sponsor.
UROP Mission Statement
The purpose of the Research and Creative Activities Symposium is to promote and showcase the scholarly activities of undergraduate and graduate students, celebrate the creative process, foster professional development through academic excellence, promote and showcase collaborative efforts among students and faculty, encourage interdisciplinary scholarly activities, establish and build connections with the community, and celebrate and foster diversity at UCD.
Participation in UROP is an intense educational experience that introduces students to the process of research, including writing a proposal, preparing a budget, conducting research, analyzing data, and bringing the project to closure in the form of a written abstract and presentation, demonstration or performance. Approximately 30 awards will be available through UROP for fiscal year 2010-2011 ending June 30, 2011.
