Truman Scholarship

Harry S. Truman Scholarship
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship program awards merit-based scholarships to students who have extensive records of public and community service work, intend to pursue a career in public service, desire to influence public policies, and have outstanding leadership and communication skills.  Out of 700 nominations, 60-65 scholarship awards are given each year. 
Focus- Junior-level students who have records of extensive public and community service work; students who demonstrate leadership skills or potential and intend to pursue a career in public service who have a desire to influence public policy
Eligibility- U.S. citizen or expectation to receive citizenship by the date the scholarship will be awarded; students who are pursuing a career in government or public policy position post-graduation; students should have a GPA of 3.6 or be in upper quarter of academic class; students seeking advanced degrees preparing them for public service are preferred; students must seek employment in public service sector for at least three of the first seven years after completing graduate degree
Benefits- Up to $30,000 to continue education
Submission- Institutional nomination form and letter, three additional letters of recommendation, recent transcript, application, and a policy proposal
