Financial Aid Process

January 1st |
FAFSA available for upcoming fall and spring enrollment period. Students (and parents of dependent students) should file their federal tax returns first. Two weeks later complete the FAFSA, use the IRS Retrieval Tool, and submit the FAFSA for processing. Go to Steps for Applying for more information.
(High school seniors are encouraged to complete the FAFSA during the spring semester of their senior year.) |
After Submitting FAFSA |
FAFSA processor notifies you that Student Aid Report (SAR) is available to view and print. Review SAR for errors; correct your FAFSA, if needed, and re-submit. |
Selected for Verification |
SAR Comments section will indicate whether you were "selected for verification." This means that the Financial Aid Office will be requesting additional documents.
Check the To Do List in Student Center at (ucdenver.edu/UCDAccess) to see if additional documents were requested. |
January - Spring semester (enrolled students only) |
Financial aid disburses (pays) into your University account the week before the semester begins, if all required documents have been received and processed by the Financial Aid Office. After tuition and fees are paid, funds remaining are refunded to you by the Bursar's Office the week that the semester begins.
(Students enrolled less than full-time, must submit the Credit Hour Adjustment Form to adjust the Cost of Attendance and possibly reduce aid. A hold will be placed on the student's account until this form is received and processed.) |

Financial aid awarded for the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters if all required documents have been received and processed. An award notice is sent to student's CU Denver|Anschutz e-mail account.
Estimate your charges to see if you have enough financial aid to cover your costs and plan for out-of-pocket expenses such as books, supplies, and housing. |
After accepting your award |
New CU Denver|Anschutz loan borrowers must complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at studentloans.gov.
ALL financial ad recipients are responsible for reading and complying with the policies and procedures described in Receiving Your Financial Aid. |
