Financial Aid Process


 January

Beginning January 1st

Follow the steps on the Steps for Apply page.


Selected for Verification:

The Student Aid Report (SAR) Comments section will indicate whether you were "selected for verification." This means that the Financial Aid Office will be requesting additional documents.


Spring semester (enrolled students only):

Financial aid disburses (pays) into your University account the week before the semester begins if all required documents have been received and processed by the Financial Aid Office. After tuition and fees are paid, funds remaining are refunded to you by the Bursar's Office the week that the semester begins.

Students enrolled less than full-time will be given instructions via email as to the steps to take to receive their financial aid.

 Early February

Early February (enrolled students only)

Spring Census date. Financial aid adjusted based on student's enrollment status. Financial aid recipients could see an adjustment in their financial aid award for Spring semester if their enrollment dropped.

 March - April

March

Did you submit your FAFSA for the upcoming school year?

April

Financial aid awarded for the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters if all required documents have been received and processed. An award notice is sent to your CU Denver|Anschutz e-mail account.

Estimate your charges to see if you have enough financial aid to cover your costs and plan for out-of-pocket expenses such as books, supplies, and housing.

May

After accepting your award:

New CU Denver|Anschutz loan borrowers must complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at studentloans.gov.

ALL financial aid recipients are responsible for reading and complying with the policies and procedures described in Receiving Your Financial Aid.

 June

Summer semester (enrolled students only)

Financial aid disburses (pays) into your University account if all required documents have been received and processed by the Financial Aid Office. Funds remaining after tuition and fees are paid are refunded to you by the Bursar's Office.

Summer Census date. Financial aid adjusted based on student's enrollment status on this date. Financial aid recipients could see a reduction in their financial aid award for Summer semester if their enrollment dropped.

 July

July 1st

The FAFSA should be submitted by this date to process financial aid before the upcoming Fall semester begins.

(Students may apply for financial aid after this date though financial aid will not be processed in time to pay the Fall bill by the due date.)

 August

Fall semester (enrolled students only)

Financial aid disburses (pays) into your University account the week before the semester begins if all required documents have been received and processed by the Financial Aid Office. Are you graduating?

Remember to complete the Direct Loan Exit Counseling.

New and continuing students

Apply for scholarships through agencies outside CU Denver|Anschutz. High school seniors should begin applying in their senior year.
