Loan Disbursment

PLUS Loan funds will first be applied to your student's University account to pay tuition, fees and other institutional charges. Any remaining funds will be refunded by the Bursar's Office to your student or you based on your request on the PLUS Application.

Repayment

  • Generally, repayment begins shortly after the loan is fully disbursed. This means that you will probably have to start repayment while your student is still in school.
  • On the PLUS Application parent borrowers can "opt" to defer repayment. Interest will continue to accrue even if you were granted a deferment on the loan. Specifically, you may defer repayment:
    • While your student on whose behalf the loan was obtained is enrolled on at least a half-time basis, and
    • During the 6-month period after your student on whose behalf the loan was obtained ceases to be enrolled on at least a half-time basis.
