ISIS Project

University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus

This site contains information associated with the Integrated Student Information System (or ISIS) Stabilization Project, following the completion of the University of Colorado's project to replace the legacy Student Information System (SIS) with a new system called ISIS, which includes Oracle's Campus Solutions, Customer Resource Management (CRM), Document Management, Degree Audit (DARS), Data Warehouse (CSW), as well as a Portal for prospective and current students, faculty, and staff.

UPDATES:

March 2012 Update on UCD Access (enrolled student portal) and MY UCD (prospective student portal):

This material was presented at the Denver Undergraduate Working Group meeting on 3/13/2012.

I. Portal Team: meets monthly, as part of campus ISIS meetings (third week of the month, Tuesday). Remember there are two portals – prospective student portal, and UCD Access (enrolled student portal). Development is done on them separately. Some things, for example branding, span both portals. Click here for a list of committee members

II. Current portal topics/modifications under discussion or in progress in programming.
Process: priorities determined from Portal Committee. Portal development is shared between UIS and the campuses (we contract through ATEL annually for technical support.)

     1. Make more of user based changes in portal versus modifying ISIS base product. This minimizes customizations to ISIS, portal modifications are easier and less costly to do, and do not impact cycle of bundles and upgrades that must be done numerous times throughout the year. To some degree, this could be characterized as moving in the direction of a portal supported from ISIS but not within ISIS (that is, moving away from forcing navigation for clients in Campus Solutions, per se).

How service delivery happens with portal and/or mobile applications is also a part of this discussion. Russ Poole is currently discussing a mobile application governance structure with campus administration.

     2. Faculty Toolkit: estimated implementation 4/30/3012. Cliff Young and John Lanning have reviewed this from the standpoint of faculty. This will make things like course roster, grading easier for faculty.

     3. Targeted Announcements: will give academic units and others the ability to push targeted messages through the portal versus using e-mail. Pilot group for each campus will be student health insurance.

Contacts have been identified for each campus. Waiting for UIS programming to be done. Users will need to be trained in the content management tool. Also waiting for UIS to get a load-testing platform in place. Estimated implementation cannot be predicted until UIS has the load testing environment in place.

     4. Service indicator alerts: estimated implementation 4/3/2012. This will allow students to quickly see a negative service indicator (formerly known as a stop) that might impact their ability to register, etc. This will be on the student tab of the student portal so it is very visible to the student.

     5. Use of “deep links” within the portal: estimated implementation 4/30/2012. This will move students quickly in and out of portal to conduct business, rather than having to navigate through student center. This has been a “hot topic” for discussion within the portal group, and we have decided this is the way to go. Students thus far in focus groups are very supportive of this process. The proposed list is for the following items:
Bursar: account inquiry; pay your bill; direct deposit
Registrar: register for classes; request a transcript; GPA calculator
        Financial Aid: accept/decline awards
        Scholarship office: scholarship application

      6. Link for student voting: estimated target date 3/30/2012. Jeff Beel is working with Khushnur to get this up for upcoming election (Request initiated 1/22/2012).

     7. Prospective student portal modification to have an admissions checklist function for graduate applicants: target date 3/23/2012. This depends on graduate department admissions coordinators being willing to enter and keep applicant data updated. Overall, the perception is that this will provide better self-service to students, and reduce second data base tracking/data entry for graduate admission coordinators. Krystal Allen is working with developers on this. A pilot department has been identified (Business).

     8. Portal usability study: targeted for Denver students end of March 2012. We have already done a usability assessment with the Anschutz student senate (January 2012). The Denver student usability study is under development (questions have been developed, student groups are being identified both on campus and in extended studies), and is planned within a couple of weeks. Cliff Young and Christine Stroup-Benham are managing this project with input from the portal team. We want to get student assessments of current usability of the portal, and student suggestions for improvement and other areas for portal presence. We will also show them mock-up of the changes already proposed. We have gotten very positive feedback on this mock-up from AMC student senators who were involved in the usability meeting.

11/22/2011: The first phase of the ISIS Stabilization Project (the follow-on to the SIS Replacement Project and implementation of ISIS), which contained a160 item list of priorities agreed upon by all campuses and modules, has been extended from the original end date of 1/31/2012 to a new wrap-up date targeted for 3/31/2012.

A PDF view of the workflow process for student data reporting requests is available here.

03/03/2011: The Office of the Registrar has been working to develop their self-service reporting tool based on COGNOS. They have produced several general-use reports that cover a wide range of reporting needs. Below is a list of currently existing reports on the site, www.ucdenver.edu/registrar/reporting:

You'll also find information on training, "coming soon" reports, access and security, and a request form for initiating new reports.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Registrar.Operations@ucdenver.edu

2/17/2011: The final draft of the ISIS Debrief and Planning Sessions: Summary and Priorities report has been posted on a UIS site. This report is a result of the Listening Sessions held on all campuses late last year.

12/07/2010: Listening Sessions have been held on both the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Denver Campus, with participation from students, faculty, and staff. A summary of the information gathered at the listening sessions is available on the Listening Sessions page of this site. A more detailed document on the stabilizing issues can be found here.

10/25/2010: A preliminary list of reports being developed to provide data for university departments, business units, and other constituents is now available. The list is intended to cover reporting needs usually satisfied by the Registrar’s Office self-service website, data requests made of the Registrar’s Office, or requests made of Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Analysis (IR). It does not include reports or queries that will only be used within the student service departments. A description, estimated date of delivery (where available) and a contact person are listed for most of the reports/queries.

REMINDER: The Registrar's Office provides individual-level data for up to two years (current and previous). Institutional Research provides aggregate and time trend information (visit IR's website for a full description of services). Also, PS Query/COGNOS ad hoc reports should only be created to satisfy a one-time or non-repetitive need for information. If there is a repetitive need for certain data, (not available through self-service means), a request to create a permanent production report should be made to the Registrar's Office or IR.

08/18/2010: ISIS Preparations for Fall Classes August 2010

To New and Returning Faculty:

Beginning with the Fall 2010 semester, the Faculty Center in ISIS (Integrated Student Information System) is a tool for you to look up class rosters; display a student schedule and access other faculty/student information.

To access the Faculty Center, there is a series of help documents available in SkillPort through my.cu.edu. These documents will help you walk through the processes of viewing FERPA statements, browsing the Course Catalog, using Faculty Search, using View My Schedule, and viewing Class Rosters.

These documents are examples of some of the training materials:
Viewing FERPA Statements
Viewing Class Rosters
Browsing the Catalog
Using Faculty Search
Using View My Schedule

NOTE: If you are having difficulties accessing your faculty center, please contact your course coordinator.
