Graduation Ceremonies

Commencement: An ending celebrating a new beginning

Commencement honors the achievement of one's academic goals and the beginning of the next vocational commitment. CU Denver ceremonies occur twice a year in December and May. Summer graduates are invited to participate in the fall ceremony. Participation in commencement is permitted only after a student has completed all of their degree requirements and has applied to graduate.

Tickets are not required for either commencement ceremony.

Prospective graduates should click on the "Apply for Graduation​" link at left to ensure that all requirements have been met prior to registering for commencement.  


9:00AM, SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2020

Registration for the Spring 2020 CU Denver Commencement Ceremony will open the first week of March.  Please check this site at that time for the link to register*.

Please Note: Applying to graduate is a separate process from registering for the ceremony*.  Registration is required for participation in the commencement ceremony and includes your regalia rental for the ceremony. Registration is conducted through the Herff Jones regalia rental website.
Students are permitted to participate in commencement only after completing all degree requirements and applying to graduate. Questions about this policy should be directed to student advisors.

Commencement Fees:

Early Bird Registration Fees (March 1 - March 20 at 9:59pm MDT​):
Bachelor's Degree - $45
Master's/Ed Specialist Degree - $55
Doctoral Degree - $72

Standard Registration Fees (March 21 - April 2; Registration closes on April 2 at 9:59pm MDT):

Bachelor's Degree - $70
Master's/Ed Specialist Degree - $80
Doctoral Degree - $97

On-Site Registration Fees (May 6 & 7)- Cash Payment Required at Cap & Gown Distribution
Bachelor's Degree - $95
Master's/Ed Specialist Degree - $105
Doctoral Degree - $122

Commencement fees include cap and gown rental, a participation fee and all taxes and fees. Gowns and hoods (if applicable) must be returned after the ceremony. Graduates may keep caps/tams and tassels. Please click here for information about academic regaliaRegalia must be rented through CU Denver's official regalia provider, Herff Jones.  All CU Denver graduates wear custom rental regalia showcasing CU colors.
