In fall 2007, the university established an undergraduate program in criminal justice. Associate Professor Mary Dodge played an integral role in the development of the program.
“There was a need in Colorado for a high-quality undergraduate criminal justice and criminology program. Since its inaugural semester, the program has exceeded far beyond my expectations. The rapid growth of the program astounds me.” Mary is also the advisor for Alpha Phi Sigma—Kappa Xi Honor Society.
When it comes to teaching, she believes that it’s not about lecturing; it’s about engaging and interacting with students. “I like that we can integrate teaching, research and service into our curriculum, which enables us to include students in everything. I’ve published research with students, and it’s a lot of fun to see articles with their names attached to them.
“I want students to look back and recognize that one of their classes inspired them—that they learned something and it stays with them beyond their education.”
