Joe Halter is the Director of the CU Denver Office of Student Life. Joe is originally from Indiana where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education-Social Studies and his Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University. When he’s not at work, he’s spending time with his wife, son, and two dogs.
Avery Balano is the Assistant Director of Student Events and Activities. She works on a wide range of projects including: Fall Fest/Spring Fling, Hot Topics, Distinguished Lecture Series, Open Mic Night, CU @ The Nuggets and many more! Additionally, she serves as the advisor for CU Denver Live!, the multicultural arts committee that puts on events like Lynxapalooza, Masterpieces and Milkshakes, and The Art of Cooking.
Nelson Rodriguez is the Assistant Director for Student Organizations. He holds a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado, from which he also received a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology. Nelson oversees all CU Denver student organizations and works alongside student organization officers, members, and advisors throughout the recognition process, planning of events, funding opportunities, organizational management and leadership development.
Megan is originally from South Dakota where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. She received Master’s of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. Megan's commitment to service and social justice truly began during her first Alternative Break to Waveland, Mississippi only a few months after Hurricane Katrina. She believes service provides experiences that cultivate an understanding of the depth of interconnection of humanity, cultures, and our global community.
Lynda Duran is the Assistant Director of Student Life for Peer Advocacy and Leadership. She supports student leadership development through various avenues such as student professional development workshops, first-year council, and peer mentoring. She completed her master’s degree in counseling psychology degree here at CU Denver. She also sends out the weekly newsletter, “The Outlook" and edits the annual edition of the student handbook and planner.
