With leadership from the Student Government Association, we chose this mascot to create community and build school spirit at our university. The selection process took place during the 2011-2012 and 2012-13 academic years and involved surveys and input from CU Denver students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as key support from the student body president, provost and chancellor.
September 2011: Student survey for mascot suggestions
November 2011: Approval for list of mascot choices
January- February 2012: Online survey for 15 mascot choices
March 2012: Student Government Association and university adminstration continue mascot selection and development process
March 2012: Final survey of top two mascot choices
April 2012: Lynx selected by students and approved by the chancellor
August 2012: Lynx personality survey
November 2012: Mascot performer try-outs, Lynx naming survey, mascot focus groups
February 2013: Mascot launch event
