Level 3 Topics

Required topics:

  • Review of Level 1 & 2 topics via CU Online’s Canvas quiz
  • Self-regulated learning, brain learning and memory
  • How to tutor target populations
  • Training and coaching other tutors*                                                             
  • Group management and supervision skills* (group interaction and group dynamics)

Elective topics:

*(If a tutor opts not to do the above topics): For the sake of the tutors’ individual professional development, the elective training can be completed in the event that certain tutors are more interested in topics that are more relevant to their studies/career interest. Tutors select and research the one of following two topics via Canvas:​

  • The role of learning centers in higher education
  • Structuring the learning experience
Experiential learning/practicum initiatives​:

Tutors have the opportunity for hands-on experience and demonstrations of the learning outcomes obtained from applying concepts covered training with the following professional/leadership initiatives:​

  • Interviewing skills
  • Peer coach service & supervisory skills
  • Peer tutor training
  • Level 3 Leadership Committee​

Required on-going trainings, observations, evaluations/coaching:​

  • Monthly tutor interchange training, Fridays from 1pm - 2:30pm                                             
  • Observations of sessions and performance evaluation/coaching with supervisor
  • Evaluations from students, toward the end of the semester

Required tutoring experience:​

  • Minimum of 25 hours of actual tutoring (after completion of Levels 1 & 2 hours); excluding Open Lab (walk-in), no show, cancelled sessions and non-tutoring activities
  • Cumulative (Levels 1-3) of 75 hours of actual scheduled tutoring experience​

Required adherence and standards:​

  • Adherence to policies and procedures
  • Uphold all codes of ethics & CU Denver code of conducts, and model high standards of leadership and professionalism.​
