  • Basic tutoring guidelines and do’s and don’ts/expectations
  • Definition of tutoring and tutor responsibilities
  • Communication skills
  • Code of ethics/missions & pedagogy, and the university’s requirements: Discrimination and Sexual Harassment; FERPA; Information Security and Privacy Awareness---via CU’s online employee portal
  • Active listening and paraphrasing
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Learning theories, styles and/or adult learners:
  • Assertiveness and/or handling difficult students/tutoring situations                                 
  • Techniques for successfully beginning & ending a tutoring session (tutoring cycle)       
  • Program and services policies and procedures
  • Referral skills
  • Disbility awareness and etiquette (self-paced training)

Required on-going trainings, observations, evaluations/coaching:

  • Monthly tutor interchange/training, Fridays from 1pm -2:30pm
  • Observations of sessions and performance evaluation/coaching with supervisor
  • Evaluations from students, toward the end of the semester​

Required tutoring experience:​

  • Minimum of 25 hours of actual tutoring; excluding Open Lab (walk-in), no show, cancelled sessions, non-tutoring activities

Required adherence and standards:​

  • Adherence to policies and procedures                                                                                           
  • Uphold all codes of ethics & CU Denver code of conducts, and model high standards of leadership and professionalism
