We're now accepting applications!

The LRC hire student employees as tutors and office support staff. To apply, please print and complete the application and background check authorization. Turn in your completed application to the LRC in Student Commons #2105.

Our tutorial services are internationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association's (CRLA) International Tutoring Program Certification. CRLA is "an international organization of student-oriented professionals active in the fields of reading, learning assistance, developmental education, and tutorial services at the college level. Its members promote the implementation of innovative strategies to enhance student learning" ().

The certification sets professional standards for tutoring services, including specialized training and evaluation to ensure that all tutors are trained in the most effective methods of tutoring. Furthermore, the certification qualifies us to certify tutors at two levels: Level 1-Regular and Level 2-Advanced.

The purpose of the certification program is twofold. First, it sets the standard for the skills and training a successful tutor needs to facilitate the students' learning process and to promote an interactive and collaborative learning experience. Second, it provides recognition and positive reinforcement for tutors' successful work from an international organization.

Being certified as a tutor provides individual tutors with transferable skills recognized at universities and colleges worldwide. Tutor certification is a marketable skill and provides a credential which many tutors should include on their resumes and college applications, or when they transfer to another college and look for tutoring opportunities, or if they desire to do private tutoring and are asked to provide a credential.

Certification by CRLA's ITPC is endorsed by the National Association for Developmental Education, Commission XVI of the American College Personnel Association, the American Council of Developmental Education Associations, the Association for the Tutoring Professional and the National Tutoring Association.
