General Requirements

  • All CLAS internships receive letter grades
  • CLAS students can earn a total of 6 credits of internship credit toward their degree
  • Minimum GPA - 2.75 for internships
  • Minimum GPA - 2.0 for not-for-credit internships
  • Learning Agreements are required for all internships and co-ops

Specific Major Requirements

Integrated Biology

Internships

Undergraduate

  • Must be a junior or senior standing with a current cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better
  • Must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 15 UC DENVER hours with 12 of those hours in biology course work
  • Undergraduate Biology Internships are offered for variable 1-6 credit hours with a maximum accumulation of 6 credit hours
    • 1-3 credits of BIOL Internship may be applied to Biology major requirements and count toward the 14 credit hours of upper division biology electives
    • 1-3 additional credits of BIOL Internship may be applied to the general education requirements (e.g., upper division) and/or the 120 credits required for graduation
  • Students earning credit will be required to submit work logs, write academic papers, deliver an in-class presentation, attend at least four meetings on the Downtown Campus, participate in the assigned internship course, and fulfill the obligations of the course syllabus (unless otherwise indicated by the instructor).
  • Faculty Sponsor - Dr. Aimee Bernard is the faculty sponsor for all undergraduate biology internships.

Graduate

  • Must be admitted to the Biology M.S. degree program, be of graduate standing, with a current minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must have satisfactorily completed at least 6 credits at UC Denver PRIOR to signing up for BIOL 5939
  • Graduate Biology Internships are offered for variable 1-6 credit hours. See your Department of Biology faculty advisor to be sure the number of credits is in accordance with your degree plan (coursework M.S. versus thesis M.S.)
  • Students will be required to submit work logs, write academic papers, attend meetings with their faculty sponsor, fulfill both the obligations of the Department of Biology faculty sponsor and the obligations of the course syllabus (unless otherwise indicated by the Department of Biology faculty sponsor)
  • Students must bring a completed Learning Agreement signed by both their site supervisor and UC Denver Downtown Denver faculty sponsor to the ELC to receive the BIOL 5939 course ADD form PRIOR to beginning ANY work at the internship site

  • Students fulfilling requirements for the Department of Biology Biotechnology Certificate must contact Dr. Lisa Johansen PRIOR to signing up for BIOL 5939 - Lisa.Johansen@ucdenver.edu
  • BIOL Internships (BIOL 5939) may not apply as independent study – even at Anschutz Medical Center. Independent study courses are listed as BIOL 5840, and MUST be taken on the downtown Denver campus with an approved CU Denver downtown campus Biology faculty member
  • Not-for-Credit Internships

    • Minimum GPA - 2.0

    Communication

    Internships

  • Minimum GPA – 2.75
  • Completed 15 credit hours at CU Denver
  • Completed a minimum of 4 COMM Courses
  • Completed a minimum of 30 credits (sophomore standing)
  • Maximum of 3 credit hours of internship credit per semester
  • Faculty Sponsor – Suzanne Stromberg is the Faculty Sponsor for academic internships for undergraduate Communication majors
  • Not-for-Credit Internships

    • Minimum GPA - 2.0

    Economics

    Internships

  • Minimum GPA – 2.75
  • Completed 15 credit hours at CU Denver
  • Maximum of 3 credit hours of internship credit per semester
  • Students earning credit will be required to submit a substantial written report by completion of the internship project
  • Faculty sponsor must be a listed faculty member in the CU Denver Department of Economics
  • Must be approved by the Undergraduate Advisor in the Department of Economics
  • Internship credits may NOT be applied toward the 40 student credit hours required for the Economics major
  • Psychology

    Internships

  • Must be of junior or senior standing with a current cumulative UCD GPA of 2.75 or better
  • Must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 15 UC Denver hours with 12 of those hours in Psychology course work
  • Undergraduate PSYC internships are offered for variable 1-3 credits with a maximum accumulation of 6 credit hours
  • Must participate in the assigned internship course, fulfill the obligations of the course syllabus (unless otherwise indicated by the instructor), and write an academic paper on a topic relevant to their internship duties
  • Students must bring a completed learning agreement signed by both their site supervisor and UC Denver Downtown Denver faculty sponsor to the ELC to receive the course ADD form PRIOR to beginning ANY work at the internship site
  • All Psychology majors are required to obtain approval of internship from one of the following designated Faculty Sponsors:

    Not-for-Credit Internships

    • Minimum GPA - 2.0
