Career Services Office Policies

Rationale for Policies:
The events organized by the Career Center staff of CU Denver provide students the opportunity to interact with many people in the educational, business, and professional community. Therefore, it is in the best interest of all participants to be professional, organized, and well-prepared. The Career Center policies are established to ensure a favorable impression of the University of Colorado Denver students and graduates to the professional community.

Office Expectations of Students:
  • Provide Accurate Information: Job search materials should be truthful and accurate.
  • Act with Integrity:
    • Honor Commitments: Keep all scheduled career counseling appointments and scheduled interviews.
    • Genuine Interest: Schedule interviews only with employers you have a genuine interest in working with. 
    • Professional Conduct: Accept an offer of employment in good faith and notify employers of acceptance or non-acceptance of the offer.  After accepting a position, withdraw your candidacy from all other interviews.  
  • Failure to Comply:
    • No Show: Failure to show up for a scheduled interview on-campus may result in losing the privilege to participate in future employer-related events.  The only acceptable excuse is a substantiated family/personal emergency.  If you do not show up for a scheduled interview on-campus, you will be required to write a letter of apology to the employer and “cc” the letter to the Career Center within two days of the missed interview.  
    • Non-Compliance: Failure to adhere to any of the above office expectations will result in the denial of access to the Career Lynx or interview privileges with the Career Center.
 

In order to facilitate our mission, the Career Center is committed to the following:

  • Provide Services: Assist with career planning, self-assessment, resume development, and job search for students and alumni.
  • Access of Information: Provide access to comprehensive services, programs, resources, career opportunities, and a variety of employers.

NO SHOW, FREQUENT RESCHEDULING AND LATENESS POLICY

            Students and alumni who “no show” or request last minute rescheduling of their appointments three times will only be eligible to be seen during Quick Tip hours for the remainder of the academic year. Please call at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule.
 
If a student is more than 15 minutes late for a 50 minute appointment or more than 10 minutes late for a 30 minute appointment, they will not be seen and must reschedule or use Quick Tip appointments. No shows, frequent reschedules and tardiness are not reflective of professional behavior and must be addressed.
 
CLIENT DISCLOSURE STATEMENT:
The CU Denver Career Center treats information provided during a counseling/coaching or drop-in appointment as confidential.  Exceptions to confidentiality are stated in detail below.  Confidentiality and privacy is strictly enforced, however the CU Denver Career Center cannot ensure that email communication will be entirely secure.   Therefore it is vital that you, as the client, choose the proper communication method with a career counselor or staff member that best suits your needs.  If desiring a more secure method of communication, you are encouraged to schedule an in-person appointment.
 
All information disclosed within a counseling/coaching session is confidential and will not be revealed to anyone outside of the CU Denver Career Center without your written permission, except under several conditions.  The following are exceptions to the confidentiality of information provided by clients in career counseling:
 
        When the client, or his or her legal representative, expressly waives confidentiality
 
        When disclosure of confidential information is required to prevent clear and  
           imminent danger to the client or others
 
        When a career counselor consults with another career counselor to obtain 
           professional information or advice to assist in serving the career development 
           needs of the client
 
        When disclosure is required by law, including, but not limited to, court-ordered
           disclosure.
 
When circumstances require disclosure of confidential information, only essential information will be revealed.  The contents of specific meetings between you and your counselor will not be discussed, but your overall progress may be discussed in general terms. To the extent possible, a client will be informed before confidential information is disclosed.
