Identify and Research Employers

How Many Employers to Target

Ideally, you’ll want to identify around 25 employers that meet your initial criteria for industry, location, and size. It is okay if your research produces more than 25; go ahead and narrow your list down to 25 employers. As you exclude employers from your list, for whatever reason, you will be able to replace those employers with some that weren’t in your first 25. If you are having a difficult time trying to identify 25 employers you would like to learn more about, try expanding your criteria for either industry, location, and size.

Next Steps

Once you have your list of 25 potential employers, you must do two things.

First, check out each employer’s website to see if their career/jobs page has any relevant positions that you are interested in applying for. If so, apply for those, and if not, see if you can create a profile to be notified on future job openings with their organization.

The next step is networking (your list will come in handy as you proceed with this step). Click to go to the Networking page.
