Your Strategy During the Job Fair
Pick up a copy of the job fair guide when you check in and take a few moments to sit down and locate your ‘A’ and ‘B’ employers on the map. Plan your visits to try to avoid walking from one side of the fair to the other.
Get Warmed Up by visiting employers on your ‘B’ list first to practice your 30-Second Commercial before approaching those on your ‘A’ list. Remember to briefly review your notes on each employer before visiting them to refresh your memory on what impresses you about them.
Saying Howdy. Making a good first impression is very important. Your handshake tells a lot about you, even before you start talking about your qualifications. When meeting recruiters, walk up to them making good eye contact, smile and extend your hand. Offer a firm (not bone-crushing) palm-to-palm handshake.
Introduce yourself and do your 30-Second Commercial. Be upbeat and enthusiastic. Ask the recruiter some good questions. Collect business cards and brochures for follow-up. After each meeting, jot a few notes to jog your memory (again for follow-up) before moving on to the next employer.
