This is a trick question so don’t let it throw you! Why? Because the employer has read your résumé and already knows that you haven’t done this exact job before and haven’t worked in the industry before. This is a test! The employer is throwing you a curve to see how you handle it. If this were truly a big deal you wouldn’t have been invited in for an interview. So relax! Here is how to handle this question effectively.

Focus on why you are a good fit for this job or this industry. Identify your relevant work or internship experience or coursework where you acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to do the job or make a contribution to the industry.
