UC Denver Client Disclosure Statement


 

The University of Colorado Denver Career Center treats information provided during a counseling/coaching or drop-in appointment as confidential. Exceptions to confidentiality are stated in detail below. Confidentiality and privacy is strictly enforced, however the University of Colorado Denver Career Center cannot ensure that email communication will be entirely secure. Therefore it is vital that you, as the client, choose the proper communication method with a career counselor or coach that best suits your needs. If desiring a more secure method of communication, you are encouraged to schedule an in-person appointment.

All information disclosed within a counseling/coaching session is confidential and will not be revealed to anyone outside of the UCD Career Center without your written permission, except under several conditions. The following are exceptions to the confidentiality of information provided by clients in career counseling:

  • When the client, or his or her legal representative, expressly waives confidentiality
  • When disclosure of confidential information is required to prevent clear and imminent danger to the client or others
  • When a career counselor consults with another career counselor to obtain professional information or advice to assist in serving the career development needs of the client
  • When disclosure is required by law, including, but not limited to, court-ordered disclosure.

When circumstances require disclosure of confidential information, only essential information will be revealed. The contents of specific meetings between you and your counselor will not be discussed, but your overall progress may be discussed in general terms. To the extent possible, a client will be informed before confidential information is disclosed.
