Post Your Résumé Online
After you have set up your agents on the job boards, the next step is to post your résumé on those sites. Due to identity theft concerns it is no longer necessary to include your address, city, state and zip code in your résumé. It is, however, a good idea to include an email address so recruiters can contact you.
Tip: Consider setting up a separate email account to use just for your job search. Get a free account at Yahoo!, Gmail, or Hotmail. Make sure your email address is professional and not cutesy, strange, or inappropriate!
Once your résumé is posted, it is important that it remain visible to recruiters. The problem is that as soon as you post your résumé, a date and time is associated with it. When employers search the résumé database, the résumés that were posted most recently are the ones they see first.
It’s the same when you search for jobs. The most recent postings are typically the ones you see listed at the top.
To maintain your résumé’s visibility, login to your account where you have posted your résumé and “update” it. An easy way to update your résumé is to add your middle initial to your résumé one time, and then take it out the next time you update again. Then press “save”; your résumé will once again be at the top of the online stack! Update your résumé every week or so to maintain optimum visibility.
