Earn a Degree

Completing your degree involves learning key terms, exploring your options, understanding requirements and policies, and tracking your progress. Undergraduate Academic Advising provides you with detailed information and helpful tools to help you plan the successful completion of your degree.

Explore Majors

While some students enter college knowing what they will major in, others may experience uncertainties. Thankfully, you don’t have to enter college knowing exactly what you want to do, and being undeclared when you start can open you up to more options and possibilities. But if you're undecided about your major, keep in mind that it's important to work closely with an academic advisor who can help you explore your options early in your college career.

At CU Denver, we have many academic advisors in the Center for Undergraduate Exploration & Advising (CUE&A) who are here to assist students with an interest inventory and major exploration. Advising in CUE&A is often done on a one-on-one basis and sessions are tailored to meet individual student needs.

There are also many great online resources, both at CU Denver and beyond, that can help you research potential majors. Below are a few of our favorites. You'll find that some of the links will take you to other universities' websites that we think would be helpful for you.

If you're sure about your intended major at CU Denver, please connect with your academic advisor.

Courses and Registration

Class registration is an important process that CU Denver students participate in each semester to make progress toward graduation and earning their degree. Registration processes may vary by school/college/advising office, and some programs may require students to schedule and attend an advising appointment prior to registering for their next semester of classes. Please check in with your advising office if you are unsure about appropriate process or if you have any questions.

All students who are eligible to enroll for the next semester will be assigned a specific registration date and time based on their number of earned credit hours. You can find details about your assigned registration date and time each semester in your UCDAccess student portal.

Graduation

Students can graduate and receive their degree at the end of spring, summer, and fall semesters. The optional commencement ceremonies are held twice a year. Fall commencement is held in December, spring commencement in May. If you graduate summer semester, you're invited to participate in the December commencement ceremony.

The graduation application deadline is the census date of each semester. Census date is the 12th day of the spring and fall semesters and the 8th day of the summer semester. It's important check your email account often for graduation application information. We strongly recommendedyou visit your academic advisor at least one semester in advance of graduation, and some programs require it.

Students must follow graduation application directions for each school and college in which they're enrolled. If a student is in two different schools/colleges they must follow graduation application directions for both programs. Typically students can expect to complete both an online and paper graduation application.

If a student wishes to participate in commencement before the semester they intend to graduate, they must contact their academic advisor for further information.
