Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of Colorado School of Medicine health profession students collaborate to offer free health screenings to adults and children during the annual Cinco de Mayo event held at Denver Civic Center Park. Students from both institutions provide joint leadership in the planning, training, recruitment and overall health collaborative program. The health profession students perform procedures with oversight from faculty. Most of the student volunteers speak both English and Spanish. The following health screening services are provided during the Cinco De Mayo event:
- Adult glucose testing
- Adult blood pressure monitoring
- Heart risk assessments for children ages 2-18 using Heart Smart Kids
The Colorado AHEC System continues to enhance the delivery of health care services throughout the state.
