Hope for Japan blossoms on Auraria Campus

Students collect donations for victims

4/11/2011

Students, faculty and staff dug into their pockets as part of a student-initiated effort to collect donations for victims of the recent natural disasters in Japan.

University of Colorado Denver students partnered with peers on the Auraria Campus from Metro State and Community College of Denver to collect nearly $2,000.

Students presented the total donations last week to local representatives of the Red Cross for use in humanitarian aid for the devastated area.

If you weren't able to make it by to drop off your donation, just send a txt message to 90999 with the words Red Cross. A $10 donation will be added to your cell phone bill. You also may want to review information available from the International Red Cross http://www.redcross.org or other charitable organizations of your choice.

3/28/11 --------------------

Cherry trees blooming in the spring are a familiar image of Japan known around the world.  But as spring began this year, those traditional images are replaced by the devastation in Japan following the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami.

Students at the University of Colorado Denver are teaming up this week up with peers on the Auraria Campus from Metropolitan State College of Denver and Community College of Denver to collect donations to help victims in Japan.

Donors are encouraged to place their names or other messages on pink-paper blossoms to drop in large buckets being managed by fellow students in the Tivoli Commons. The student volunteers will be collecting there through Thursday, March 31. All donations will be forward to the American Red Cross for overall relief support.

If you can’t make it by to drop off your donation, you can donate $10 to the Red Cross by sending a txt message to 90999 with the words Red Cross. The $10 will be added to your cell phone bill. You also may want to review information available from the International Red Cross http://www.redcross.org or other charitable organizations of your choice.
