Salary Increase Process for Postdocs

For Postdoctoral Fellows/Trainees in job code 1438 at the University of Colorado Denver and Anschutz Medical campuses.


Salary Increases

  1. Salary increases for postdocs, as with any other appointment category, are encouraged, but not required. 
  2. Your mentor and department are the determiners of your salary. You are free to negotiate for whatever you can get.
  3. Keep in mind that the State of Colorado may dictate salary parameters to the University due to budget constraints. (As an example, for fiscal year 2010 (beginning in July 2009), the State determined that no salary increases would be awarded for any employee class unless it involved promotion or equity due to the salary being below the classification minimum. Therefore, no salary increases were awarded until that was lifted.)  The source of your funding does not matter.
  4. Only if the fund sponsor has mandated a specified salary increase must that be followed, and it is part of the official agreement or contract.  That will override the State’s ruling on salary increases.
