The Center for Faculty Development sponsors Faculty Development Grants, YUMPS grants, and co-sponsors The Research and Scholarship Completion Fund Grant with The Office of Research.

Faculty Development Grant

The Faculty Development Grant is an annual competition available to full-time faculty. These grants are intended to enhance the quality of teaching, research, or creative work.

Among those items to be supported in all three categories are: (1) attending workshops and conferences related to teaching and/or research/creative work; (2) employing student assistants involved in research work;  (3) supporting professional development; (4) converting existing courses to newer technologies; and (5) obtaining special equipment or software. Examples of ineligible expenses include (1) faculty release time or salary, (2) student tuition reimbursements, and (3) travel to attend a conference to present the project results. Collaborative projects are encouraged.

Eligibility

Faculty members eligible for these awards are those holding a full-time appointment at the CU Denver Downtown Campus in any of the following categories: 1) tenure-track faculty; 2) tenured faculty; 3) instructor or senior instructor; or 4) clinical track.  Note: Non-tenure-track faculty can only apply for projects related to teaching unless their contracts include a stipulation that they engage in scholarly activity.  A faculty member can receive only one Faculty Development Grant every other year; faculty members who received a Faculty Development Grant in the summer of 2012 are ineligible for the current competition.

YUMPS Grants

YUMPS (Young Upwardly Mobile Professors) is a program that provides small grants (usually $400-$500) to untenured tenure-track faculty for expenses such as attending a professional conference, hiring a research assistant, buying books or software. YUMPs funds must be matched by the recipient's department or school/college.

To make a YUMP grant request, e-mail the Center for Faculty Development with (1) the details of the activities you will be undertaking, (2) an approximate budget, and (3) a short rationale indicating the importance of the grant in advancing you toward tenure. Approval of this grant requires confirmation of matching funds from the applicant's college or department. This confirmation can be sent to center.facdevelopment@ucdenver.edu. Please be aware that YUMP funds can only be requested in the fiscal year in which they will be expended. NOTE: Funds for the 2012 – 2013 academic year have been awarded. Plan to submit an application for the 2013 –2014 AY beginning in August 2013.
