Faculty Grants

Two Programs Offered

The Center sponsors Faculty Development grants, YUMPS grants, and co-sponsors The Research and Scholarship Completion Fund Grants with The Office of Research.

Faculty Development Grants

Faculty Development Grants are for part- and full-time faculty (part-time faculty must have at least a .51 appointment and a one-year contract). These grants are intended to enhance the quality of teaching, research, or creative work and funds can be used for:

  • hiring student assistants
  • obtaining special equipment or software
  • converting existing courses to newer technologies
  • attending workshops or conferences
  • partially funding summer stipends

The Faculty Development Grant program is an annual competition. The call for proposals is released April 1; proposals are due April 30. Awards are announced as soon as is possible, typically by June 1. Funds are available July 1 and must be expended by June 15 of the following year.

The Faculty Development 2011/2012 Grant call for proposals is now available here.

YUMPS Grants

YUMPS (Young Upwardly Mobile Professors) is a program that provides small grants (usually $400-$500) to untenured tenure-track faculty for expenses such as attending a professional conference, hiring a research assistant, buying books or software. YUMPs funds must be matched by the recipient's department or school/college.

To make a YUMP grant request, e-mail The Center for Faculty Development with (1) the details of the activities you will be undertaking, (2) an approximate budget, and (3) a short rationale indicating the importance of the grant in advancing you toward tenure. Approval of this grant requires confirmation of matching funds from the applicant's college or department. This confirmation can be sent to center.facdevelopment@ucdenver.edu. Please be aware that YUMP funds can only be requested in the fiscal year in which they will be expended.
