H1N1 (Swine) Flu Updates

High-level effort initiated at UC Denver to address flu concerns
(Aug. 31, 2009) The return of students to UC Denver's locations and increasing reports of H1N1 flu cases in the region have prompted university leadership to initiate a high-level effort to ensure adequate preparations to manage the threat posed by H1N1 flu.

On this Web site, students, parents, faculty and staff will find extensive information and links to helpful information and resources, including seasonal flu clinic dates, times and locations.

All students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to understand the symptoms for this illness and to take personal actions as recommeded by health agencies such as the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). That includes covering your cough, thoroughly washing hands, staying home if you are sick and getting the seasonal flu vaccine. Other helpful advice is available in the "Toolkit for Institutions of Higher Education."

The CDC (see CDC Guidance for Higher Ed) does not recommend that universities cancel large-scale events or quarantine students or any individuals who may be infected as an H1N1 containment strategy. At this time, UC Denver is not canceling any classes or special events.

Populations considered at increased risk of H1N1 include pregnant women, individuals with suppressed immune systems such as those undergoing chemotherapy, people with diabetes or other complicating medical conditions, and small children.
