Postdoc Appreciation Week

The National Postdoc Association encourages institutions around the country to show a little love to their postdocs through National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW). This year, 2019, will mark the 10th anniversary of the national celebration. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th
Networking Strategies Workshop
Held by the Career Development Office, this workshop will help you build the skills necessary to effectively communicate with other professionals to grow your network.
LUNCH INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION
Time/Location: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM; Fitzsimons Building, Bushnell Auditorium (8th Floor, Q20-N8200)


TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th
Coffee Hour/Resource Fair
Join the PDA for coffee, tea, and pastries and connect with representatives from various organizations to learn about resources available on campus. Representatives will include a financial advisor, the editor of the PhD Post, the OMBUDs Office, and the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th
Block Party
​Come visit the PDA at the annual CU Anschutz Block Party​! The members of the executive council will be minding the booth and giving you a chance to win some of our fresh new swag by spinning our prize wheel.
Time/Location: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM; Bonfils Circle (in front of the Fitzsimons Building)

Happy Hour/Trivia Night
​As we do every month, the PDA will be meeting at Cedar Creek Pub for drinks and appetizers, but we have a couple extras this month to make this event extra special for NPAW. After Happy Hour ends, we're going to split into teams and keep the good times rolling for Trivia on the Rocks, the weekly trivia night held at Cedar Creek Pub. As always, appetizers are on us AND, for this month only, drinks will be on us, as well! The first 50 postdocs to RSVP for this event will receive a voucher for a free drink!
Time/Location: Happy Hour 5:00 - 6:30 PM, Trivia 6:30 - 8:30 PM; Cedar Creek Pub


THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th
Career Panel
The PDA will be hosting some PhDs who are post-postdoc to give us some tips and advice on the subject of jobs. The panel will feature a wide range of career paths, including:
  • Heather Callahan, Portfolio Manager at CU Innovations
  • Amber Scott, NGS Manager at BioFrontiers
  • Jacki Rorabaugh, Medical Science Liaison at Teva Pharmaceuticals
  • Nuria Padilla, Medical Science Liaison at Kiadis Pharma (International Researcher)
  • Bill Buchta, Medical Writer
  • Sujatha Jagannathan, Assistant Professor at CU Anschutz (International Researcher)
This event will include a short networking session with the panelists, so be sure to attend the workshop on Monday!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th
Scavenger Hunt
Team up with your fellow postdocs for some friendly competition and a chance to win some prizes - including a prize worth $200 for the top scoring team! This brand new event will take you around campus to learn about resources, meet new colleages, practice team building skills and generally have a good time. Be sure to sign up to secure a spot!
Time/Location: Meet for team formation at 11:30 AM at Bonfils Circle, the scavenger hunt will end by 1:00 PM

Ice Cream Social
To wrap up NPAW, we will be enjoying some sweet treats courtesy of Happy Cones, a New Zealand style ice cream truck. All postdocs and any student/staff member accompanied by a postdoc will receive a free scoop!
