ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss TV series selected the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center as its partner in medical oversight, weight loss and nutrition services. The World Health Organization named the Colorado School of Public Health Center for Global Health a collaborating center for promoting family and child health. Innovative faculty at the College of Nursing pioneered the nation’s first nurse practitioner and school nurse programs. School of Dental Medicine clinics serve 65,000 patients each year, providing dentures, implants, braces and general dentistry. CU Cancer Center has been elected as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network®, an alliance of 23 of the world’s leading cancer centers. School of Dental Medicine faculty and students speak more than 30 different languages, creating a comfortable envi- ronment for non-English-speaking patients. School of Medicine professor Eric Coleman, MD, was named a 2012 MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellow for helping patients transition from hospital to home.

Survival rates at CU Cancer Center beat national rates

In the five years since she was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, Ellen Smith has traveled the globe, celebrated the births of four grandchildren and even married her best friend.
 
At the CU Cancer Center she found D. Ross Camidge, MD, PhD, who was doing a clinical trial for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. Smith was a match for the clinical trial and in July 2009 became one of the first people in the world to take crizotinib, an ALK inhibitor which is designed to block the gene that drives the lung cancer.
