CU School of Medicine faculty donated $46 million in care to charity and to indigent patients in fiscal year 2012. The World Health Organization named the Colorado School of Public Health Center for Global Health a collaborating center for promoting family and child health. Innovative faculty at the College of Nursing pioneered the nation’s first nurse practitioner and school nurse programs. School of Dental Medicine clinics serve 65,000 patients each year, providing dentures, implants, braces and general dentistry. CU Cancer Center has been elected as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network®, an alliance of 23 of the world’s leading cancer centers. The CU School of Medicine is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 schools in the nation in primary care, family medicine, pediatrics and rural medicine. The first human liver transplant was performed by a surgical team from the CU School of Medicine. School of Dental Medicine faculty and students speak more than 30 different languages, creating a comfortable envi- ronment for non-English-speaking patients.

Five years before Rick Hamilton arrived at the emergency room of the University of Colorado Hospital, Dr. Ethan Cumbler already was thinking about how to help stroke patients by treating them quicker.
Lucky, as it turned out, for Hamilton.
A salesman who lives in southern Illinois, Hamilton had a stroke on Halloween, 2011, on a flight from St. Louis to Salt Lake City. His airplane detoured to Denver. Paramedics were waiting for the plane.
