CU Denver Alumni is proud to host a new online networking program exclusively for our alumni community: LynxConnect. During a real-time, text-based event online, you will have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with other alumni around the globe.

The focus of each networking event will vary from month to month, connecting alumni through industry, mentoring, workplace issues, and exploring the different ways that alumni can connect with one another. 

Best of all, these events are free of charge, you can join from any device and choose to participate for however long you’d like - 10 mins or the full hour.

  • Architecture: Jared Carlon, MA'03, Principal at Norris Design

Jared Carlon has worked on both planning and landscape architecture projects during his tenure with Norris Design. With degrees in both planning and landscape architecture he is able to provide a wide range of services and be involved with multiple aspects of projects. His work has spanned many interesting developments including mixed-use projects, large-scale single family and multifamily residential developments, senior housing, parks, recreation centers, retail and commercial developments, open space, transportation systems, lotting and general landscape plans. 

Jared has experience in landscape design and graphics, AutoCAD, Photoshop, grading and detailing, as well as the social, economic, political, and physical components of planning, site analysis, environmental design/assessment and entitlement coordination. Jared also serves as a bridge between the client and the local jurisdiction throughout the development process.




  • Civil Engineering: Andrew Ferrigno, BS'93, Senior Civil Engineer at the City of Huntington Beach, CA

Mr. Ferrigno has been working for the City of Huntington Beach for 13 years in the Wastewater and Potable Water Design Section.  His project experience includes the design of wastewater lift stations and forcemains, the design and rehabilitation of large diameter potable water pipelines, the design construction and testing of cathodic protections systems for buried pipelines, and the design and construction of potable water wells.
In addition to his experience working for a municipality, Mr. Ferrigno has also worked for companies which manufacture pipelines for potable water applications, and as a design engineer specializing in land development engineering.  
Mr. Ferrigno graduated from the University of Colorado Denver in Civil Engineering in 1993, and from the University of Colorado Boulder in Environmental Biology in 1985.





  • Computer Engineering: Akram Atallah, BS'84, MS'86, MBA'94, President of the Global Domains Division and Deputy CEO at ICANN

Akram was appointed President & CEO of ICANN on 13 March 2016 and will serve as such until Göran Marby's officially start.
 
As the first President of ICANN's Global Domains Division, Akram Atallah also oversees management of generic domain operations, domain name industry engagement and web services. His appointment in June 2013 acknowledged the rising importance of the organization's New gTLD Program that is increasing the Internet's top-level domain name space from 22 top-level domains like .COM and .ORG to potentially thousands more. He is charged with delivering operational excellence while increasing scale and responsibility.

A catalyst for driving positive change and growth in technology organizations, Akram first joined ICANN in September 2010 as Chief Operating Officer. In that role, he oversaw operations and strategic planning as ICANN evolved and grew from an entrepreneurial-type start-up to an international and professional organization.

His diversified technology experience runs the gamut from engineering to process and performance improvement to product development and marketing. Before joining ICANN, he successfully restructured CoreObjects Software, an engineering services start-up, as its Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he held positions of progressive responsibility at Conexant Systems, culminating in his role as Senior Vice President and General Manager of its Broadband Access Business Unit. Among his accomplishments at Conexant were improved profit margins, the restructuring of the marketing and engineering functions and restoration of market leadership position.

Akram has a MBA, a master's in electrical engineering and bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Colorado Denver. He is trilingual in English, Arabic, and French.

  • Filmmaking: Victor Elizalde, BA'89, Managing Partner at Viva Pictures

As Managing Partner of Viva Pictures Distribution, LLC. Victor is responsible for overseeing acquisitions, productions and distribution. Working in conjunction with business leaders and Producers around the world, Elizalde coordinates and oversees growth opportunities within the America’s and Asia targeting new businesses, growing and increasing penetration of existing businesses, and leading the development of business and operations with emerging technologies.

Prior to joining the Viva Pictures, Elizalde, a senior entertainment industry executive with extensive experience in development and the operation of theatrical and home entertainment businesses, was Director of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s International Business Development. Between 1990 and 1999 Elizalde held a number of positions in entertainment and consumer products in the United States, during which he helped start direct retail relationships, introduced new technologies and managed business units for some of the top entertainment and consumer product companies in the world including The Walt Disney Co, Warner Bros. and Technicolor.

A native of the Chicago, Elizalde earned a Master's degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Colorado Denver. Currently Elizalde resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.

  • Finance: Colleen Knoll, MBA'92, CFO of the Public Service Credit Union
  • Fine Art: Colleen Fanning, BA'96, Owner of Fanning Partnership
  • Marketing:
      • Scott Aller, BS'08, Vice President of Marketing at KORE Software;
      • Mario Vaiana, BS'11, BA'11, Market Development Regional Account Executive at Comcast

Mario graduated from CU Denver in 2011 with a dual major in marketing and international business. Upon graduation Mario moved to Manhattan where he worked in advertising on brands such as Bayer Aspirin, Aleve, and Midol. When he returned to Denver, he got into cinema advertising working for NCM Media Networks where he managed and executed onscreen and lobby campaigns for both local and national clients. About 2 years ago Mario's career took him to Comcast where he started off doing branded events. His hard worked paid off for after about 10 months he got promoted to do market development managing the downtown Denver territory. Mario also has marketing and event experience working with non-profits such as the National Sports Center for the Disabled, the Denver Zoo, Children's Hospital, and The Walt Disney Company. 






  • Nonprofit Administration: Meredith Hintze, MPA'08, Executive Director of Reach Out and Read Colorado

For the past 8 years, Meredith Hintze has focused on facilitating statewide systemic change through strategic partnerships and a results-based approach, providing direct support to Colorado children and families.

Since joining Reach Out and Read Colorado in 2009 as Program Coordinator, she has grown with and shaped the organization. Meredith has helped to increase organizational presence from 128 clinics to 300 clinics, reach from 42 counties to 62 counties, and the number of children served from 80,000 to 110,000. She was named Executive Director in June 2016, bringing a wealth of experience, programmatic innovation and a track record of results.

Last year, Meredith was selected to serve as the Reach Out and Read National Training Project Director, where she was responsible for the revitalization and creation of the content for the Reach Out and Read training module to be utilized by over 20,000 pediatric health care providers nationwide, impacting more than 5 million children.

Throughout her career, she has traveled to all corners of Colorado and collaborated with community groups, school districts, hospital administrators, state officials, national thought leaders and medical experts.

Meredith is a member of the 2011 Impact Denver Class at the Denver Chamber of Commerce. She earned her Master's of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from the University of Colorado Denver and a double Bachelor's of Art in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Southern California. She lives in Denver with her husband and daughter.​
