A Testament to Second Chances

Dr. Robert “Bob” Wolfson MS '97, a CU Denver alum, donor, and retired professor is hailed by his former students, mentors, and colleagues alike for his love of education, his unwavering belief in his students, and his inherent desire to make the world a better place. But Bob’s time at the university did not begin until 15 years into an already successful career as a surgeon.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he found himself no longer able to perform surgery. In search of a new path, the CU Denver Business School introduced Bob to an opportunity that added 20 years to his otherwise sunsetting career. Bob 's story is not only an incredible tale of overcoming adversity but also a testament to second chances, the power of higher education to help make them possible, and the joy of giving back to help future generations.

Leveling the Playing Field in Corporate America

CU Denver’s Business School introduced Empowering Women in Business (EWiB) last fall to equip students with the distinct tools they need to navigate the workforce and successfully pursue leadership roles in their careers. Now in its second semester, EWiB has served as an incredible beacon of inspiration that acknowledges often overlooked issues regarding the playing field between men and women in the workplace.

Special Lecture | Composing Violence: The Limits of Exposure and Hindu Nationalism in India

| 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
Discussing his recent book, Composing Violence, Dr. Moyukh Chatterjee will explain how highly visible acts of political violence against India’s Muslim minority in the state of Gujarat catalyzed radical changes in law, public culture, and power. Focusing on courtroom procedures, police archives, legal activism, and mainstream media coverage, Chatterjee shows that, far from being quashed through its exposure by activists, media, and politicians, state-sanctioned anti-Muslim violence set the stage for transforming India into a Hindu supremacist state. Both state and civil society’s responses to the violence, Chatterjee contends, reveal the ways violence itself has become a constitutive feature of modern democracy, in which riots and pogroms are techniques to produce a form of society based on a vilified minority and a triumphant majority. Dr. Chatterjee’s examination of Hindu nationalist violence in India has implications for the ways we understand rising religious nationalist violence in democracies throughout the world today.
