CU Denver Alumni is proud to host a new online networking program exclusively for our alumni community: LynxConnect. During a real-time, text-based event online, you will have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with other alumni around the globe.
The focus of each networking event will vary from month to month, connecting alumni through industry, mentoring, workplace issues, and exploring the different ways that alumni can connect with one another.
Best of all, these events are free of charge, you can join from any device and choose to participate for however long you’d like - 10 mins or the full hour.

Join CU Denver career counselors for 20-minute, one-on-one chats to get all of your LinkedIn questions answered. Whether you are new to LinkedIn and need some tips for how to get started or been a member for some time and want to maximize the platform, this session will unlock LinkedIn's possibilities for you.
Examples of topics that attendees can chat with counselors about are:
- Building a strong profile
- Using the system for your goals or needs
- Connecting (finding people, making strong introductions, and following companies and influencers)
- Job searching
- Leveraging alumni status and alumni pages
- Joining and using LinkedIn Groups
- News, trends, and industry information (using your newsfeed for growth)
Kyla Hines, Career Counselor
Kyla completed her Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University, is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and has been providing career counseling services with individuals and groups for over 5 years.
Kyla has extensive experience teaching and presenting in psychoeducational and academic settings and has a passion for working in higher education. As a counselor Kyla sees her role as a collaborative facilitator, meeting each individual where they are at in the moment to assist them in reaching their goals to create successful, sustainable, and authentic plans for the future.
Nick Shaklee, Assistant Director
Nick is a strong believer in the existential school of thought and have discovered his own meaning in life by helping others find theirs. That is why he has focused his counseling skills in the field of career counseling; to help individuals create a life of happiness through a fulfilling career. Nick truly believes we long for a sense of purpose in life and, to him, careers can be one component to this sense of purpose.
Nick approaches his work from a holistic, humanistic, and motivational interviewing lens. Allowing him to see the individual as a whole in order to best help them discover their own meaning in life that is in line with their academic & career goals, interests, personality, skills, and values.
Rick Villarreal, Career Counselor
Rick loves adventure and meeting new people. He recently earned his M.Ed. in Counseling and Career Development from Colorado State University (go big horns), and worked at the CU Denver Career Center as an intern in 2015 and 2016. His previous seven years of graphic design and marketing experience taught him to focus on meaning; therefore, he strives to help others fill their lives with their own passions, purpose and drive.
Rick sees work life and personal life as one and the same and cares deeply about helping students understand their own interests, motivations, and strengths. He believes in the importance of finding realistic and life-fulfilling work for everyone. His philosophy is that social justice is at the heart of career counseling, and that everyone can achieve their dreams if they have hope, believe in their strengths, and have the right support network. While his heart is set on career counseling, he still hopes to someday be Batman.
