Radiation Safety Training consists of Modular Training and Annual Refresher training. The Modular Training has 5 training modules. The first 4 modules are required for all users of radioactive materials and the 5th module is required for all PI's in addition to the first four. Refresher training is required annually after initial training is complete.
Modular training sessions are scheduled approximately every six weeks. Sessions for Modules 1, 3, 4, and 5 are for testing purposes only and no formal lecture is given. You should review the material in the Radiation Safety Training Manual prior to coming to the testing session. Module 2 provides a lecture and hands-on training with a portable radiation detection instrument.

RAD WIT Worker in Training Program - A PI or researcher who has not completed Module 1, 2, 3 or 4 may work with radioactive materials under the direct supervision of one or more specific preceptors who are authorized to work with radioactive materials. Radiation Safety On the Job Training is required for all radiation workers and documentation must be kept in the lab and available for inspection by inspectors. This OJT form emphasizes tasks associated with working and handling radioactive materials and should be completed in addition to the OJT Safety Training form provided by the Compliance Group.
