How to Submit to COMIRB

Individuals who want to be listed among the research personnel for a COMIRB-regulated study as an Investigator or Research Coordinator/Assistant need to meet ongoing requirements :

  1. Gain access to University of Colorado Electronic Research Administration website, eRA(InfoEd), at https://era.cu.edu.
  2. Complete online education courses through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) website and refresh this education every 3 years [This can only be done after you have access to the eRA(InfoEd) website].
  3. Complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure each year [This can only be done after you have access to the eRA(InfoEd) website].
  4. Upload a current CV into the eRA(InfoEd) website [This is a requirement for Investigators only].
For instructions on how to meet these requirements, please select the appropriate option below:

The first task that needs to be completed is to gain access to the eRA(InfoEd) website. This will allow you to complete the other requirements. Please click the appropriate tab below for instructions on how to gain access:

I am a current staff or faculty member at the University of Colorado Denver

If you are a current staff or faculty member at the University of Colorado Denver, you can use your UC Denver login and password to access the eRA(InfoEd) website. If you cannot remember your login information, please contact the UC Denver IT Office at 303-724-4357.

The internet portal to access the eRA(InfoEd) website can be found at https://era.cu.edu/. Click the 'Login' tab in the left hand column off the screen then enter your username and password. Make sure the 'Campus' dropdown menu is set to 'Denver'.

If you are unable to login to the eRA(InfoEd) website, please contact the COMIRB Help Line at 303-724-1055.

Scroll to the bottom of this webpage for instructions on how to complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure, upload a CV, and complete the necessary CITI training courses.

I am not a current staff or faculty member at the University of Colorado Denver

If you are not a current staff, faculty member, or student at the University of Colorado Denver (including all UC Denver affiliate organizations, unless you have a dual position), gaining access to the eRA(InfoEd) website requires this three-step process:

1. Complete and submit the information form for your Person of Interest (POI) number by clicking here. Once your request is processed, your profile will be granted access to the COMIRB eRA(InfoEd) database website.

2. After receiving an email that your profile has been created, wait one day for it to become active. Then, you should be able to log in to eRA(InfoEd).

If you would like to move forward with this and believe that we already have a profile for you in the UC Denver website, please begin with Step 1 and/or redo Step 2 anyway. If you already have completed any of this in the past, your information will help us to identify your previously existing profiles and you will go through the process that much more quickly.

Once you have gained access to the eRA(InfoEd) website, scroll to the bottom of this webpage for instructions on how to complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure, upload a CV, and complete the necessary CITI training courses.

I am a student at the University of Colorado Denver

If you are a student at the University of Colorado Denver, obtaining a login to the eRA(InfoEd) website requires this two-step process:

1. Complete and submit the COMIRB Person of Interest (POI) Form by clicking here. Once your request is processed, your personal profile will be granted access to the COMIRB database website, eRA(InfoEd).

2. After receiving an email that your POI number has been linked to your UC Denver login, wait one day for it to become active. Then you should be able to log in!

The internet portal to access the eRA(InfoEd) website can be found at https://era.cu.edu/. Click the 'Login' tab in the left hand column off the screen then enter your username and password. Make sure the 'Campus' dropdown menu is set to 'Denver'. A pictorial description of how to login and navigate the eRA(InfoEd) website can be found here.

Once you have gained access to the eRA(InfoEd) website, scroll to the bottom of this webpage for instructions on how to complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure, upload a CV, and complete the necessary CITI training courses.



Once you have completed the instructions in the appropriate box above to gain access to the eRA(InfoEd) website, click the instructions below to complete the other requirements.

I need to complete the CITI Training Courses for the first time

NOTE: If you are not a current faculty or staff member, or are a current student at the University of Colorado Denver, you will need to obtain a POI number before signing up for training. Directions for obtaining a POI number can be found by clicking the appropriate box above.

1. Visit https://www.citiprogram.org/, and click the 'Register' button under 'Create an account'. (If you have taken the CITI Courses before and are refreshing your education, Log in to the CITI website, then skip to step 8.)

2. Choose 'University of Colorado Denver' from the Participating Institutions dropdown menu, then continue with the registration process.

3. Fill out the questions using your institutional email address (john@ucdenver.edu, john@uch.org, john@childrenscolorado.org) and fill in your POI number or UC Denver Employee ID number (available at http://ucdenver.edu/ucdaccess)

4. You will see a selection of 7 Curriculum choices. COMIRB Certification requires the completion of one of the courses under Human Subjects and one of the courses under HIPS. (The remaining courses are offered for your consideration if you have an interest in those subjects).

5. Under Human Subjects, select Biomedical (Group 1) or Social/Behavioral (Group 2). (Please select the group most closely related to the type of research you will be doing.) Do not select 'COMIRB Panel Members' if you are not a COMIRB Board Member.

6. Then, select a course under HIPS that most relates to your position. You may scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Submit' if you do not want to enroll in the extra courses.

7. On the next page, select 'I have not previously completed an approved Basic Course.'

8. On the next page you should see a tab titled 'University of Colorado Denver Courses'. If you click on the tab, you should see the header 'Courses'. If yours does not say 'University of Colorado Denver', please contact the COMIRB Help Line at 303-724-1055.

9. Under the 'Status' header for each course should be either 'Not Yet Started' or 'Incomplete' in red font. Complete the listed courses.

10.You may have selected additional courses, but the two courses that COMIRB requires completion of are:

   a. 'CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS)' This fulfills the *COMIRB HIPAA Course requirement. (This course only needs to be completed once, and this does not need to be completed by investigators at the Downtown Campus, or investigators whose research is solely within the Colorado School of Public Health.)

   b. 'Group 1 Biomedical Investigators, Basic Course' or 'Group 2 Social and Behavioral Research, Basic Course'. This fulfills the *COMIRB HS Course requirement. (This course needs to be completed every 3 years)

11. Complete both required CITI courses with a total grade of 80% or better. These modules can be completed one at a time separately, or all at once, as your schedule allows. Your CITI Completion will be automatically e-mailed to the COMIRB Office. Please print a copy of your completion report for your records.


By selecting this option, it is assumed that you already have access to the eRA(InfoEd) website. If you do not have access, please select the other option for information on how to gain access. If you are unsure, please contact the COMIRB Help Line at 303-724-1055.

To meet the ongoing requirements, all investigators and research coordinators/assistants must complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure each year and renew their CITI instructional course requirements every 3 years. Investigators must also upload their CV into the eRA(InfoEd) website.

I need to renew my CITI training

1. If you have taken the CITI Courses before, and are refreshing your education, login to the CITI website at https://www.citiprogram.org/.

On the next page you should see a tab titled 'University of Colorado Denver Courses'. If you click on the tab, you should see the header 'Courses'. If yours does not say 'University of Colorado Denver', please contact the COMIRB Help Line at 303-724-1055.

2. Under the 'Status' header for each course should say either 'Not Yet Started' or 'Incomplete' in red font. Complete the listed courses.

3. You may have selected additional courses, but the two courses that COMIRB requires completion of are:

a. 'CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS)' - This fulfills the *COMIRB HIPAA Course requirement. (This courses does not require a refresher and only needs to be completed once; Also, this course does not need to be completed at all by investigators at the Downtown Campus and investigators whose research is solely within the Colorado School of Public Health.)

b.'Group 1 Biomedical Investigators, Basic Course' or 'Group 2 Social and Behavioral Research, Basic Course' - This fulfills the *COMIRB HS Course requirement. (This course needs to be completed every 3 years)
