Pathways to International Internships and Employment

for Business School Students


​The University of Colorado Denver’s Institute of International Business (IIB) and International Business program provide a unique collaborative program opportunity to connect Business School students with Colorado companies seeking to enter or expand their international business footprint. The federally funded and nationally awarded CIBER program, Pathways to International Internships and Employment (PI2E), pairs internationally, professionally and academically experienced interns with CEOs to create, develop and/or complement strategically a firm’s global business opportunities. Students gain invaluable outcomes from their internships that incorporate entrepreneurial problem-based and experiential learning methodologies while providing first-hand know-how to companies including:
  • Analyze country-specific financial, political, economic and business risk landscapes.
          Recently researched regions and countries include Middle East, Latin America, Japan,
          China, South Korea, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Australia
  • Identify specific country, region market feasibility
  • Create, implement strategic plans for international market entry, growth
  • Establish international market entry action plans
  • Develop, enhance international business functions; e.g., supply chains, routes-to-market, new international markets
  • Enhance existing international market presence through competitive analyses, cultural and country-specific product, services, technology development
  • Develop future “blue ocean” global business and marketing spaces
  • Assist strategically with a firm’s evolving international operations and organization
  • Draft customized employee, management country-specific business handbooks

Since its inception in 2015, the PI2E Program has paired over 35 students with 33 companies, a number of which led to full-time employment. PI2E’s predecessor program (2012-2014) paired eleven student interns at the CEO level in companies including:
  • Molson Coors International
  • Grease Monkey International
  • Solix Technologies
  • Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort
  • Car Wash Express
Six of these students have been hired full-time by their respective CEOs.
