The UHL Student Club organized a potluck on March 15 for
students to not only socialize, but to show off dishes they had made. While
some of the dishes were cultural (Thai beef salad and Cornish pasties), others
were a little more familiar, such as the soda floats and butterscotch cookies.
With the food set up a little after four, the students began to eat and others
played games outside to pass the time.
Not only did students show up to eat, so did Dr. Doug
Dyckes. He spent time sampling dishes and talking with students outside at the
Simi Abraham (Biology, 2016) played football in Ninth
Street Park with Derrick Gallegos (Pre-Med, 2016) and Tryke Roark (Recording,
2016). After that, Ashley Almirez (Pre-Med, 2016) displayed her gymnastic
skills to her classmates. For Simi, the fun experience included eating and
spending time with friends.
Among the items Simi sampled were lemon rice, beef salad,
ras malai dessert, parts of a veggie platter, banana lumpia, and pasties. Simi
hopes that there will be another potluck in the future, as she enjoyed both the
atmosphere and the food. However, she did have suggestions for next time.
“We should announce it constantly and earlier so people can
plan ahead to get time off work,” Simi said. “Next time we should have a
Frisbee because the football hurts.”
