Name: Katrina Crouse
Year: Senior
UHL Class: 2012
UHL Track: Academic Honors
Katrina Crouse, a photography and psychology major, recently began an internship position with the Grace Apartments of Mercy Housing, Colorado. This is the same nonprofit with which UHL has a growing volunteer partnership via the
Mercy Housing Initiative. She feels that her work with Grace Apartments combines both of her majors and her interests very well. She is in charge of designing and writing a weekly newsletter for the apartments. This newsletter, which is a new feature for Grace, will be integral in keeping all residents and staff up-to-date about new events and occurrences in the neighborhood, as well as an encouragement for the residents to become involved in the apartment complex and community. Additionally, on Tuesday nights, Katrina runs an hour-long art class for residents ages 12 to 18 years old. This class will tackle many different artistic techniques throughout the course of the semester and will be a great chance for the refugee population of Grace Apartments to experience the joy of creating their own art.
