Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP)

Mission: To empower our members to serve society by using sound medication principles and strategies to achieve positive patient outcomes. AMCP serves as an organization through which the membership pursues its common goals: to provide leadership and support for its members, to represent its members before private and public agencies and health care professional organizations, and to advance pharmacy practice in managed health care systems.

Description: The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) is a national professional association of pharmacists and other health care practitioners who serve society by the application of sound medication management principles and strategies to improve health care for all. The Academy's more than 6,000 members develop and provide a diversified range of clinical, educational and business management services and strategies on behalf of the more than 200 million Americans covered by a managed care pharmacy benefit. The Academy observed its 20th anniversary in 2009.

Membership Census (2010-2011): 40 PharmD & 2 PhD candidates

Benefits: The 2011-2012 academic year is the mark of our first year as a Student Chapter. Membership will ensure that you are exposed to concepts like disease management, formulary management and outcomes research from guest speakers like Dr. Kara Johnson, a Clinical Pharmacy Drug Information Specialist from WellPoint, Inc. and Dr. Sheila Stadler, a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Cardiac Risk Services from Kaiser Permanente.

AMCP also offers summer internships, amazing conferences, and great networking opportunities with other students and managed care pharmacists in Colorado! Come to our info session at the beginning of the school year to learn more about what our membership has to offer!

Events: AMCP-CU has a year packed with great events. Join us in October to welcome the Colorado Medicaid Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee to our campus. November marks the start of our P&T Competition preparation where teams of four begin working on a clinical case presented by the Foundation of Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP). In January students can start registering for the Professional Speed Networking Event. The event teaches students how to develop a “60-second elevator speech”, build on their networking skills, and explore a career in managed care pharmacy. Finally, in April students will travel to San Francisco to attend the AMCP Annual Conference!
