The oncology pharmacy residency at University of Colorado Denver is a 12-month ASHP-accredited program. It is a post graduate year 2 (PGY2) program. Consistent with ASHP accreditation, completion of a PGY1 program is a required prerequisite.
The oncology pharmacy residency provides comprehensive experiences in contemporary oncology practice. The resident will provide pharmaceutical care to medical oncology patients in both the inpatient and outpatient oncology settings at the University of Colorado Hospital and the University of Colorado Cancer Center. Clinical rotations include stem cell transplant, medical oncology, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology, developmental therapeutics, supportive care and elective experiences. The residency provides experiences and flexibility to satisfy the specific interests of the resident.
The resident will be directed in skills critical to patient care and effective communication through clinical rotations and structured educational sessions. A multidisciplinary approach to patient care is highly emphasized. The resident will also be involved in the education of pharmacy students, through limited didactic teaching and clerkship precepting of pharmacy students, as well as medical residents and other healthcare professionals. This residency requires the development and implementation of a research project and will give the resident writing experience. Oncology preceptors include several experienced clinical practitioners with opportunities to work with research-oriented faculty members. Upon successful completion of the residency, the resident will be able to pursue positions in academics as well as a variety of clinical practice settings.
