Experiential Training Curriculum

The experiential training component for the NTPD Program includes six (6) five-credit advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs). Students fulfill the APPEs by completing six rotations, each requiring 200 contact hours. If taken on a full-time basis, each rotation is five weeks. They may be taken on a part-time basis, in cooperation with the rotation’s preceptor.

Three practice areas are required:

  • Drug information
  • Ambulatory care
  • Hospital clinical

Each pharmacist also performs three elective APPEs. Electives may be selected from a variety of medicine subspecialties such as neurology, oncology, nutrition, infectious disease, critical care psychiatry and pediatrics. Other elective choices include pharmaceutical care projects, community pharmacy, education, administration, industry, managed care and clinical research.

All pharmacists enrolled in the NTPD Program must either perform these APPEs as a rotation, or successfully challenge these practices areas for credit.
