Shawn Elliott has been working for several years, figuring out how to reduce the recurrence of problems for patients with asthma in Southern Colorado's San Luis Valley.
Elliott recently graduated from the CU College of Nursing with a doctorate of nursing practice. She is planning to return to Alamosa, Colo. where she will continue teaching and educating others -- particularly as it relates to treating asthma.
Elliott's advanced studies that led her to earn a doctorate were funded through a Mordecai Health Fellowship.
Elliott began teaching at Adams State College in Alamosa in 2006. Then in January 2009, she started on her doctor of nurse practice. She plans to resume her full-time faculty role at Adams State in August 2012.
She really appreciated that the Anschutz Medical Campus’ program allowed her to work in the San Luis Valley while she completed her work on her doctorate.
Her research was funded through a grant received by National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
Elliott's piece of the overall project was to develop and implement clinical care pathways in the emergency rooms and bring them up to code and guidelines.
