The Clinical Education Center Simulation Suite is offering you the opportunity to volunteer in simulation. You will be able to play the role of a family member, friend, or significant other during simulations. Providing the role of a family member in a simulated learning environment provides opportunity to enhance and practice communication skills for all students involved.
We have had several volunteers thus far with positive feedback specific to clinical learning, communication, and patient centered care. Below are frequently asked questions regarding the volunteer experience. Hopefully these will help you decide if volunteering is right for you. If you have any questions about this program please contact Nicole Markoff by e-mail.
What will I do?
You will be role playing as an additional participant during the scenario. We will give you a written script of responses when the student nurse asks you a question. The script will also have questions for you to ask the student nurse.
How much time is involved?
You can sign up for as many or as few hours as possible. Simulations are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. They usually are scheduled from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can participate during any of these hours on these days.
How do I sign-up?
Contact Nicole Markoff by e-mail at email@example.com.
Are there any requirements to be eligible for volunteering?
Yes, you may only participate in a simulation for a course you have already completed. You must also attend a mandatory orientation. The orientation is an hour long workshop with specifics of the experience that will be held every block. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Nicole Markoff and she will respond to you via e-mail with the orientation date and time. You only have to attend the orientation once and you will then be eligible to volunteer every block if you wish. If you can't make the orientation date, then you can attend the following block's orientation and be eligible to participate at that time.
Thank you for volunteering! We are striving to provide the most realistic clinical experience through simulation. You can help with this goal by participating.
