23rd International Caritas Consortium

October 26 - 27, 2017   |  Stanford, CA

The Watson Caring Science Institute
Watson Caring Science Center, and Stanford Health Care invite you to attend the 23rd International Caritas Consortium in Stanford, California.

The International Caritas Consortium (ICC) is a two-day interactive and collaborative professional practice event of healthcare providers from various institutional systems and of individuals who are actively engaged in applying Caring Science and the Theory of Human Caring. The ICC provides opportunities for networking and formal presentations of ongoing research and application of the theory. Participants learn from each other through shared work of original scholarship, diverse forms of caring inquiry and exploration of caring-healing practices. Through interactive teaching and learning sessions, the ICC has proven to be an intimate forum that enables participants to delve into meaningful dialogue on the values, ethic, and moral ideals of human caring and heart-centered living.

Please note that, although the International Caritas Consortium (ICC) and the Caritas Coach Education Program (CCEP) are held at the same location and at contiguous times in the fall, they are two distinct and different events. CCEP students are invited, but not required, to attend.

What’s the difference between the CCEP and the ICC?

CCEP is a dynamic six month learning experience that begins and ends with a two-day, in-person intensive seminar (April  & Oct) and which provides one-on-one mentoring with distinguished WCSI faculty with the purpose of supporting the student in developing/implementing a project that brings forward Caritas concepts into daily practice.

Each fall, the CCEP seminar is held immediately following the International Caritas Consortium (ICC) and is hosted by healthcare systems/organizations actively engaged in applying Caring Science and the Theory of Human Caring. Accepted CCEP applicants are also encouraged to attend one Regional Caritas Consortium or professional conference to share their caring science work.

The ICC is a separate two-day gathering of health care providers from various institutional systems and of individuals who are actively engaged in applying Caring Science and the Theory of Human Caring. The ICC provides opportunities for networking and formal presentations of ongoing research and application of the theory. Participation in ICC requires a separate registration and registration fee.

Although the International Caritas Consortium (ICC) and the Caritas Coach Education Program (CCEP) are sometimes held at the same location and at contiguous times, they are two distinct and different events. CCEP students are invited but not required to attend.

Caring Science Meets Heart Science
October 25, 2017
1:00pm - 6:00pm
In this workshop, we will explore the synergy and connection between Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the heart-based science of HeartMath.

At an intuitive level, we know that our ability to care for others is shaped and sourced from how we care for ourselves. By cultivating reflective practices that focus on self-care and self-compassion, we can increase our capacity towards empathy and compassion for others.

Caritas HeartMath integrates the philosophical, ethical, and healing constructs of Caring Science with the proven, research-based tools and practices of HeartMath. It provides a unique and powerful pathway to increase personal resilience, to diminish symptoms of personal and professional stress, and to nurture and sustain caring relationships.

This workshop will be co-facilitated by Robert Browning (HeartMath Master Trainer and Health Care Director) and Chris Griffin (Clinical Nurse Educator, Master HeartMath Trainer and Caritas Coach).

Workshop Cost:

*If you are associated with an active WCSC Affiliate organization or an active member of the International Association for Human Caring, you qualify for the lower rate.
